Customers should note that the are two versions of the CD-298 controller - the "CD-298" model and the "CD-298A" model.

The CD-298 model was discontinued at the latter end of 2002 and the CD-298A model was discontinued in early Sep 2003.

Users can check the type of model that they own by watching the boot-up sequence text carefully. If the controller
displays "CD-298" (rather than "CD-298A") then you have an older model of the controller and you should be aware of its limitations when used with modern high-speed writers (48x or above).

Quite often such discontinued controllers contain very old BIOS revisions, and this can cause serious compatibility problems with modern writers.
